The Cerebral Palsy Association Fight For The Rights Of Those With Disabilities

The cerebral palsy association known as UCP is a major advocate for the equal rights of children and adults with any type of disability.  The United Cerebral Palsy association was formed in the late 1940s at a time when there was a general lack of understanding about people with disabilities.  The aim was to improve their quality of life and advance their independence.

The cerebral palsy association has grown to be the largest health charity in the US.  Based in Washington, DC the UCP foundation has a network of affiliates across the nation.  Together they provide information and other direct services for thousands of adults and children with cerebral palsy and other types of disability.  They can offer info to parents after a diagnosis of spastic CP.

The cerebral palsy association offers info and UCP support services to parents of children with cerebal palsy.  Symptoms usually become apparent in infants before the age of 3 years.  Signs include developmental delay in which a child is slow to reach milestones such as sitting up or crawling.  Another symptom is hand preference at an early age.  Treatment varies according to the individual, but usually involves physiotherapy to help with control of movement.
