Cerebral Palsy Spastic Disorder Is The Most Common Form Of CP

Cerebral palsy spastic is the term given to a particular movement impairment condition.  Cerebral palsy spastic symptoms occur when there is increased muscle tone or hypertonia.  Muscles become very stiff and weak.  This affects control of movement.  A program of physiotherapy can be beneficial for some children.

Cerebral palsy spastic disorder is just one type of this condition.  It is the most common form, affecting about 70 – 80% of children with CP.  Another sort is athetoid or dyskinetic which is characterized by slow writhing movements.  It usually affects the arms and legs, feet and hands.  It can also affect the face or tongue muscles.

Cerebral palsy spastic symptoms are the most frequent.  Ataxic signs on the other hand are rare, affecting only around 5- 10% of patients.  Some children with cerebal palsy show signs of more than one form such as both spasticity and athetoid movements.  Treatment depends on the severity and type of symptom.
