A Kid With Cerebral Palsy May Show Signs Of Developmental Delay

A kid with cerebral palsy will typically show signs of this movement impairment disorder at a young age before the age of 3 years.  A young kid with cerebral palsy may have symptoms of developmental delay and be slow to reach milestones such as being able to sit up or smile.
 
A kid with cerebral palsy can be diagnosed with a series of special tests.  Doctors will test motor skills and reflexes.  According to statistics around 1 in 400 infants are affected by mild to severe cerebral palsy.  Therapy such as physiotherapy can help with control of movement and coordination.
 
A kid with cerebral palsy may have signs of different types of the condition.  Spastic CP is the most common type affecting about 75% of children.  Athetoid affects around 15% and ataxic is rare, found in up to 10% of cases.  Treatment varies according to the individual symptoms but can improve the quality of life for kids with this disability.
